Group Three takes centre stage at the 2018 Champion of Champions in Coventry on Wednesday with three of the world’s top ten players in action.

Defending champion Shaun Murphy and two-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan have already booked their place in the Semi-Finals after coming through Groups One and Four respectively.

Another star-studded quartet will now battle it out for a place in the second Semi-Final on Saturday, with only one having made it to the final of this competition.

Judd Trump was runner-up to O'Sullivan here in 2014 and kicks off his quest to go one better when he takes on Belgium's Luca Brecel in the second group Semi-Final.

World number five Trump qualified secured his spot in this event via his world ranking position, having failed to lift any silverware since last October's European Masters.

The left-hander has made a relatively quiet start to the season, reaching just two ranking Quarter-Finals - most recently losing out to Jack Lisowski in the Last Eight of the International Championship in China a week ago.

Trump is out to avenge his 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Brecel at this stage of the Champion of Champions 12 months ago - the Belgian's only head-to-head victory in five attempts.

Brecel went on to defeat Mark Selby in the group final last year before eventually losing out to Murphy in the Semi-Finals and he has failed to reach that stage of any tournament since.

The world number 13 secured the last available spot in this event courtesy of his ranking position but will be keen to prove he is not here just to make up the numbers.

The opening group Semi-Final sees reigning and three-time World Champion Mark Williams up against Paul Hunter Classic champion Kyren Wilson.

Williams' incredible resurgence at the age of 43 appears to be showing no sign of curtailing, having followed up his fairy-tale third Crucible triumph by winning the World Open in August.

The world number two will be out to put a shock defeat to Akani Songsermsawad in the Last 64 of the International Championship behind him in what is incredibly his debut appearance at the Champion of Champions.

The Welsh legend is out to claim a first win over Wilson under a conventional format, having lost all three of their previous meetings - including a 6-1 rout in the Quarter-Finals of this year's Masters.

Wilson is making only his second appearance in this competition, having reached the Semi-Finals on debut in 2015 before going down to Mark Allen.

The world number nine has picked up two titles this season, following up his Paul Hunter Classic success with victory at the Six Reds Championship in Thailand little over a week later.

He also reached the Semi-Finals of the Shanghai Masters but has since suffered shock early exits in the English Open (Last 128) and International Championship (Last 64).

The action gets underway from 1pm GMT, with Group Semi-Finals contested over the best seven frames and the final best of 11.
