Judd Trump continues winning run by reaching Champion of Champions Semi-Finals

Judd Trump extended his winning run to nine matches by coming out on top in Group Two of the 2019 Champion of Champions in Coventry on Wednesday.

Just hours after landing back from China following his World Open success on Sunday, Trump returned to the table and resumed normal service by seeing off Stephen Maguire and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in convincing fashion.

The world number one showed no mercy on an injured Maguire as he stormed to a 4-0 whitewash, before denying Thailand's Un-Nooh 6-3 in a repeat of their World Open final at the weekend.

"Recently I've been getting off to good starts and putting opponents under pressure and that was the same today," said Trump.

"He [Un-Nooh] was missing a few more than he normally does and I was able to pounce on his mistakes.

"I stayed pretty confident, if it had gone 5-5 I would have been under pressure but I knew I would get another chance and I had the belief I would take it.

"I have a lot of confidence from the win in Yushan and I am bringing that into this event."

Maguire opted to compete in Coventry despite a fractured ankle sustained in China last week as he battled through the pain barrier with a protective boot on his right leg.

However, he was kept in his seat for much of the match as Trump secured four unanswered frames with high breaks of 76, 102 and 68.

Un-Nooh had edged out 2018 runner-up Kyren Wilson 4-3 in his Semi-Final, defeating 'The Warrior' for the second time in the space of a week following their Semi-Final in Yushan.

Wilson took the first frame with a break of 62 before Un-Nooh reeled off three consecutive frames with breaks of 63, 51 and 90 to take command.

Wilson rallied back with successive breaks of 102 and 98 to force a decider, but it was the Shoot-Out champion who delivered the killer blow with a break of 69.

Un-Nooh immediately had his back to the wall in the group final as he watched Trump cruise to the opening four frames with top breaks of 60, 114 and 128.

The Thai ace got off the mark thanks to a 73 in frame five, but only for Trump to hit back with an 89 break to make it 5-1.

Back-to-back breaks of 61 and 66 saw Un-Nooh apply further pressure, but the reigning World Champion sealed the deal with a 71 break to set up a show-down with Mark Allen in Saturday's second Semi-Final.
