Judd Trump is aiming to build on his strong start to 2018 on the second day of action in Group Four of the 2018 Championship League in Coventry.

The three-time winner of this event has already sealed his place in the Group Four Play-Offs after four victories from four at the Ricoh Arena on Wednesday.

Trump made three centuries during a dominant day of play and dropped just one frame on the way to topping the table.

With his place in the Play-Offs already secured, the world number will use his two remaining round-robin matches as an opportunity to build momentum ahead of aiming to reach the Winners’ Group.

Although, the Bristolian was not the only player to enjoy a 100% record on Wednesday, as Barry Hawkins recorded two wins from two to occupy second place heading into Thursday.

It would have been three out of three for the Hawk after he opened with a 3-1 success against Mark Allen, but that result was annulled following the Pistol’s withdrawal from the event for family reasons.

Nevertheless, Group Four has been blown wide open as a result with all five remaining players in with a genuine chance of joining Trump in the Play-Offs.

Shaun Murphy also collected two wins on day one, but a 3-0 defeat by Trump puts him behind Hawkins on frame difference.

World number 19 Liang Wenbo forced himself into contention in the penultimate match on Wednesday with a narrow 3-2 victory over Ali Carter, who has plenty of work to do after losing each of his opening three games.

The Captain has reached the Winners’ Group in two of his last three appearances in the Championship League, but will need two wins to keep his hopes alive of doing so again.

Tom Ford is also searching for a first win in Group Four, having lost all three matches so far.

Play gets underway at 11am GMT on Thursday, with all matches being played over the best of five frames and each player facing each other once, before the top four advance to the semi-finals and, subsequently, the final.

The victor will progress to the Winners’ Group of the 2018 Championship League at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
