Both players have defied the odds to battle through tough groups in reaching this stage and will now be desperate to make it into the final of snooker's most popular road show event.

Bingham has taken the Premier League by storm this season and has fully justified his place in the event, qualifying for an invitation courtesy of his Australian Goldfields Open title in 2011.

The Basildon ace romped to the top of Group A undefeated with seven points from his four matches, and make the world of snooker stand up and take notice with unprecedented back-to-back 6-0 whitewashes of Mark Selby and Neil Robertson in the same night.

The man known as 'Ball Run' will be out to maintain his unbeaten record as a Premier League player by reproducing that sort of form against one of snooker's all time toughest match players.

Higgins could count himself fortunate to be even appearing in the event this season, after he was offered a wildcard spot following the withdrawal of reigning champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, but the four-time champion of the world has bounced back to his best after a poor 2011/12 season which saw him fail to win past a Quarter-Final of any major televised tournament.

The Wizard of Wishaw looks to add this title to his Shanghai Masters and PTC 4 crowns already this season, but knows he faces a tough test if he is contain a confident and heavy scoring Bingham.

Higgins has not been renowned for producing his brilliant best snooker under this format, but did go on to lift the title in 1999 and will fancy his chances of replicating that achievement this weekend.

The duo have met a total of 10 times in previous major competition dating back to 1999, and it's Higgins who boasts the superior record, having taken victory on six occasions to Bingham's three plus a draw.

Their most notable encounter came in the Quarter-Finals of the 2005 Grand Prix and saw Higgins prevail 5-1; Bingham will be out to end a three-year wait for a win over the Scot.

The bookmakers make Higgins the odds-on favourite at 8/15 to progress to yet another final, with Bingham offering relative value at 6/4 with Bet365 given his rampant league form this season.

Either world number one Judd Trump or reigning Masters Champion Neil Robertson awaits the winner in Sunday's grand final.

The match begins at 7.30pm BST and will be streamed live over the best of nine frames from the Grimsby Auditorium.
