John Higgins steps up his pursuit of a third Masters title with a Quarter-Final clash against Ryan Day at Alexandra Palace on Friday evening.

Higgins is part of an elite group of only nine players to have lifted this trophy on more than one occasion since 1975 and appears well-poised for another tilt at the title this weekend.

The world number five kick-started his latest Masters campaign with a 6-4 victory over fellow Scotsman Anthony McGill, underlining hos trademark grit by reeling off four consecutive frames from 4-2 down to get over the line.

Higgins is now bidding to reach the Semi-Finals of this illustrious invitational for the first time since 2012 and faces an opponent he has dominated down the years.

Day, appearing in his first Masters since 2010, pulled off a shock scalp of Ding Junhui in Round One and will be eyeing another upset upon his return to action.

The Welshman back among the sport's elite after winning his first ranking title at the Riga Masters last summer and has since gone on to reach the Semi-Finals of the UK Championship.

Prior to this week, Day had won just once in four previous Masters appearances but is now consistently producing some the best snooker of his 20-year professional career.

Higgins has dominated the overall head-to-heads, winning ten of their fourteen previous encounters, including a 10-3 rout in the First Round of the 2016 World Championship and a 9-7 triumph in the final of the 2008 Grand Prix.

Their latest show-down gets underway from 7pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Number eight seed Mark Allen awaits the winner in the Semi-Finals on Saturday evening.
