Title favourite Judd Trump is aiming to advance to the final of the 2018 Masters when he locks horns with Kyren Wilson in the Last Four at the Alexandra Palace.

The world number three has equalled his best performance in snooker’s most prestigious invitational event by reaching the semi-finals for a third time after recording a pair of 6-4 victories.

First, he withstood a stubborn fightback by Liang Wenbo, who recovered from 5-1 down to only trail 5-4, before a break of 85 saw him over the line.

The Ace was also pegged back by Shaun Murphy in the quarter-finals. This time, he let a 4-2 lead slip as the Magician made it 4-4, but produced the timeliest of back-to-back centuries of 111 and 113 to prevail.

Trump has been the highest-seeded player remaining in the draw since World champion Mark Selby and seven-time Masters winner Ronnie O’Sullivan suffered unexpected exits from the tournament earlier in the week.

And he will be well aware that this is a fantastic opportunity to truly underline his outstanding talent by lifting the Paul Hunter Trophy on Sunday evening.

It has been a ground-breaking run for the Warrior, who opened with a 6-4 victory over former finalist Barry Hawkins in which he produced a marvellous clearance during the final frame to seal the deal.

He then enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable 6-1 rout of the resurgent Mark Williams in the quarter-finals to move to within two matches of what would be his biggest tournament win to date.

Ironically, Trump was Wilson’s opponent when he made his breakthrough by capturing the 2015 Shanghai Masters title courtesy of a 10-9 victory in the final – the most high-profile meeting between the players to date.

And that will stand him in good stead as he aims to justify his own potential as one of the brightest young talents in the game.

It promises to be a fantastic encounter with the winner setting up a showdown against either John Higgins or Mark Allen in the final of the 2018 Masters.

The match gets underway at 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Alexandra Palace in London.
