Judd Trump aims to move a step closer to a maiden Masters title by dispatching 2015 champion Shaun Murphy in the Quarter-Finals on Friday afternoon.

Trump has reached the Semi-Finals at Ally Pally on two previous occasions (2012 and 2016), but after watching a number of his key rivals fall by the wayside, now finds himself as the new title favourite with the bookmakers.

Trump was solid, if not spectacular, in his opening round salvo, defeating Liang Wenbo 6-4 after withstanding a spirited fightback from the Chinese star.

The number three seed will be keen to raise his game and justify his position as tournament favourite as he chases his second silverware of the season to follow up last October's European Masters success.

The attacking left-hander also finished runner-up in the Shanghai Masters and reached the Semi-Finals of the Scottish Open in what is shaping up to be fruitful season for the 28-year-old.

Murphy, meanwhile, is appearing in a fifth Masters Semi-Final in his last seven appearances in the sport's most prestigious invitational and is bidding to become only the tenth multiple winner of this title.

Murphy kick-started his run with a 6-4 victory over Ali Carter, storming to the opening four frames before fending off a typically tenacious fightback from the two-time world finalist.

The 2005 World Champion has lost in all three of his ranking final appearances this season but notably claimed the Champion of Champions crown in Coventry last November.

He has lost eight of his thirteen previous meetings with 'The Ace' since 2007, including an epic World Championship Quarter-Final in 2013 which saw Trump edge an epic contest 13-12.

Their latest show-down gets underway from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Number 13 seed Kyren Wilson awaits the winner in the Semi-Finals on Saturday afternoon.
