Mark Allen will play Kyren Wilson in the 2018 Masters final after completing a 6-3 victory over John Higgins at the Alexandra Palace on Saturday.

Both players will appear in the showpiece of snooker’s most prestigious invitational event for the first time, thus ensuring that there will be a new name on the Paul Hunter Trophy in 2018.

Allen marched into uncharted territory at the Ally Pally as five breaks over 50 were enough to see off Higgins while, earlier in the day, Wilson produced a magnificent fightback from 5-2 down by reeling off the last four frames to stun Judd Trump 6-5 in the other semi.

World number seven Allen was appearing in his third Masters semi-final and aiming to build on his marvellous 6-1 win over Ronnie O’Sullivan in the last eight, but fell behind as Higgins enjoyed a dominant opening frame.

However, the Pistol came back firing with breaks of 63 and 90 on the way to taking a 3-1 lead into the mid-session interval.

Two-time champion Higgins, who was appearing in the last four for the eighth time and first since 2012, responded after the break with a stunning total clearance of 131 for the 700th century of his fine career.

But Allen hit back with runs of 65 and 64 to move to the brink of victory which, after Higgins kept his hopes alive with a wonderful 128 clearance, he secured thanks to a further contribution of 85.

His reward is a showdown with Wilson, who was in trouble at 5-2 behind against Trump earlier on Saturday.

World number three Trump, who was appearing in the last four for the third time, appeared to be on course for a first final after breaks of 83, 96 and 69.

But, the Warrior lived up to his nickname as he battled away and his opponent scored just five points as he won the next three frames with runs of 57 and 111 forcing a decider.

Trump was in first to establish an early 23-0 lead but a risky attempt at a tricky plant proved costly, with Wilson producing a nerveless break of 72 to complete the turnaround and book his place in the final.
