Former champion Barry Hawkins is out of the 2017 Snooker Shoot-Out after a 61-25 defeat at the hands of world number 97 Eden Sharav, while two-time Crucible king Mark Williams was ousted by ex-professional Andy Hicks at the Watford Colosseum on Saturday.

Fifth seed Hawkins, who lifted this trophy in 2012, was the latest big name to be sent packing from the single-frame event, as he and Williams joined the likes of Stuart Bingham, Joe Perry, Mark Allen and Kyren Wilson on the list of high-profile early casualties.

The Hawk was made to pay following a clumsy foul when rushing to complete his shot within the allocated 15 seconds, from which his Scottish opponent took advantage from having the ball in hand with a run of 49 on the way to claiming an impressive scalp.

Hawkins was one of three previous winners of this event both on display and to be eliminated on day three, as 2015 champion Michael White was swept aside 58-1 by amateur Steven Hallworth and 2011 victor Nigel Bond was overcome 66-32 by the entertaining Zhang Yong.

Elsewhere, Williams was punished for a loose positional shot when in the balls and appearing to be on course for a comfortable win over Hicks, who is one of four amateurs to progress to the third round of the competition.

The Devonian stepped in following a brief safety exchange with a cracking opening red to the middle pocket paving the way for a run of 48 to secure a credible victory.

Former runner-up Milkins also bowed out at the hands of Leeds’ Womersley, who compiled a neat break of 56 to see off the six-time ranking event semi-finalist, while Ricky Walden and Graeme Dott were among the other big names to fall at the second hurdle after losing to Michael Georgiou and Li Hang respectively.

Meanwhile, German Masters winner Anthony Hamilton made a break of 84 on the way to a comprehensive 115-0 victory over Fang Xiongman, as amateur Ashley Hugill swept aside former Crucible qualifier Stuart Carrington 61-8.

Last year’s finalist Luca Brecel saw off Scott Donaldson 34-17, but Hamza Akbar was unable to build on his stunning victory over top seed Stuart Bingham as he was overcome by 2015 runner-up Xiao Guodong.

Joe Swail and Jak Jones also enjoyed comfortable wins against Allan Taylor and Fraser Patrick respectively as Darryl Hill edged out Bradley Jones, while David Grace ousted Tian Pengfei and James Cahill beat Noppon Saengkham.
