Michael Georgiou picked up the first ranking silverware of his career at the 2018 Snooker Shoot-Out after a dramatic victory over Graeme Dott in the final on Sunday.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a landmark day in his career as he held his nerve to clinch the £32,000 title at the Watford Colosseum.

Georgiou had previously never made it beyond the Last 16 stage of a televised tournament but thrived under the shot-clock format to claim glory in the unique one-frame event.

The victory also secures him a place in the upcoming Ladbrokes World Grand Prix, as well as November's Champion of Champions.

"It hasn't quite sunk in yet but I'm sure tomorrow morning or the day after, it will," said Georgiou.

"Everything has happened so quickly, everyone dreams of trophies as children so it's all been worth it.

"I enjoy the format, the crowd and the buzz but I didn't expect this."

The English-Cypriot cueist began his run by defeating Malaysia's Thor Chuan Leong on Friday, before seeing off Jak Jones, Luca Brecel, Nigel Bond, Zhang Yong and Martin O'Donnell to reach the final.

The world number 73 also pocketed the £2,000 high break bonus after producing a sensational 109 clearance in his Quarter-Final win over Zhang.

Dott lost out in his second ranking final in seven days, following on from defeat to Mark Williams in the German Masters, and admitted: "I was actually rushing for no real reason because I thought I was running out of time.

"I thought it was over, Michael has played the best in this tournament, he's had so many one-visits and breaks so when I got my chance I wasn't really expecting it, that's probably why I was rushing so much."

"Two finals in two weeks is great because you know it's not going to last that long."

Georgiou began the final in style with a 52 break inside four minutes, but only for Dott to launch a quick-fire counter and overturn the deficit.

A frantic climax saw the frame go down to the final pink, and it was Georgiou who kept his cool to roll it in and complete the triumph.
