World number 98 Nigel Bond pulled off a sensational scalp at the 2019 UK Championship on Monday as he reeled off five consecutive frames to knock out tournament favourite Judd Trump 6-3.

Bond, 54, rolled back the years to end Trump's hopes of completing an annual Triple Crown and progress to the Last 16 for the first time since 2007.

Trump, who had dropped just one frame in his opening two matches at the York Barbican, looked to be on course to march on after opening up a 3-1 lead, but only for the 1995 world finalist to hit back with five in a row for a famous upset.

"He's the man of the moment. I'm 54, what am I doing?!" Bond told BBC Sport.

"Once I settled I played some good stuff out there. It's unbelievable.

"Judd missed one or two, which helped, but I was just trying to show people I can still play. When I am feeling good, my game is still there."

Trump took the opening frame with a 52 break before doubling his lead in style with a break of 114.

Bond dominated the third frame by 90 points to nil, but only for World and Masters Champion Trump to reply with a break of 90 for a 3-1 mid-session advantage.

Bond then battled his way to the next two frames to claw back on level terms and turned on the style with successive breaks of 114 and 85 to make it 5-3.

A nail-biting ninth frame went down to the final pink, but it was the 1996 British Open champion who eventually sunk it to seal a memorable victory.

Trump, a five-time ranking event winner in 2019, admitted: "Anything can happen in snooker.

"He used his experiences and he scored heavily as well.

"I didn't do a lot wrong. It wasn't like I was getting in and missing. He made it scrappy and he took advantage. The pace of the game was very slow and hard for me to get a rhythm.

"Everyone's human. You can never get too excited or too down."

Bond, who made his debut in the UK Championship 30 years ago, will now face either Gary Wilson or Joe Perry in the Last 16.
