Ali Carter has issued a rallying cry ahead of his Second Round show-down with Ronnie O’Sullivan at the World Snooker Championship on Friday.

Carter, who has failed to defeat O'Sullivan in any of their 13 previous meetings dating back to 2001, is bidding to break his duck by dumping out the red hot title favourite.

O'Sullivan has defeated 'The Captain' in two World Championship finals (2008 and 2012) and Carter has played down his chances, suggesting the tournament is centred around 'The Rocket'.

"He's red hot favourite," Carter told BBC Sport. "I've not got a good record against him so he should steamroller me but I'm going to turn up and see if I can pot a few balls.

"It's the Ronnie O'Sullivan show isn't it really?

"I turn up for my match, everyone gets a dressing room, but he's still in the dressing room after he's won, so I've gone in the office and said "what's going on, where's my dressing room?"

"We're sorry but he's doing interviews" Well he's had his match, I've got a match now but everyone's like "I don't want to upset Ronnie" when we're all equal, we're all in the top 16.

"He's had his match now it's my turn to play a match."

Carter defeated 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott in the opening round but has not been beyond the Second Round stage in Sheffield since losing to O'Sullivan in the final six years ago.

The 38-year-old is renowned for his tenacious approach on the table has vowed to come out fighting in their three-session show-down.

"We all want to win, we all want to be World Champion, that's why we're here," he added.

"I'm determined to try and enjoy the match against Ronnie, we know what he is and we know how good he is but I can play as well so bring it on, come on then - let's have it."
