Two mouth-watering Quarter-Final ties take centre stage at the 2019 Players Championship in Preston on Thursday, with three World Champions and a former Players Champion in action.
The second Coral Series event of the season has already served up its fair share of drama and excitement, with Judd Trump notably coming from 5-2 down to defeat Jack Lisowski 6-5 on Wednesday night.
The Quarter-Finals continue on Day Four at the Preston Guild Hall, with the afternoon session featuring a show-down between reigning and three-time World Champion Mark Williams and 2010 World Champion Neil Robertson.
Robertson, winner of last month’s Welsh Open, is looking to inflict a second defeat of the season on the ‘Welsh Potting Machine’ after prevailing 6-3 in the opening round of The Masters back in January.
The in-form Aussie opened up with a comfortable 6-3 win over fellow Cambridge-based cueist Joe Perry , while Williams produced one of the best performances of the season in defeating Ali Carter 6-2.
Williams has endured a relatively quiet campaign by his own admission, reaching just one ranking Quarter-Final since winning the World Open back in August.
The veteran Welshman will be determined to recapture his vintage best form at the ideal time ahead of his world title defence at The Crucible next month.
The evening session sees 2016 Players Champion Mark Allen up against English Open champion Stuart Bingham.
The match signals a repeat of their UK Championship Semi-Final in York in December, which Allen won 6-5 before finishing runner-up to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Allen pulled off a commanding 6-2 victory over Stephen Maguire on Monday and admitted he is slowly rediscovering his hunger for success after an eventful start to 2019 which saw him concede a match early in the World Grand Prix.
Bingham, runner-up in last month’s Welsh Open, has enjoyed a welcomed return to form this season and wrapped up an important 6-4 win over David Gilbert on Wednesday to all but secure his spot in the upcoming Coral Tour Championship.
His most notable triumph over former rival Allen came in the 2014 Shanghai Masters final to secure his second ranking title.
The action gets underway from 1pm GMT, with all matches to be contested over the best of 11 frames.
