John Higgins is aiming for revenge against Ronnie O’Sullivan when the decorated duo lock horns in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters on Friday.

This is the 60th meeting between two of snooker’s legends and second in the space of just over a week, with Higgins desperate to avenge the comprehensive 6-0 whitewash suffered against O’Sullivan at the Champion of Champions.

Both players are locked on 29 ranking titles and just one win away from having a shot at moving ahead on the all-time list in Saturday’s final.

The Rocket has certainly picked up from where he left off in Coventry this week; hitting the tournament’s highest break of 144 in his win over Gary Wilson along the way.

He dropped just a single frame on Thursday as he booked his place in the semi-finals in Shanghai.

The 2009 champion whitewashed Barry Hawkins 5-0 in the Last 16, before putting Mark Williams to the sword 5-1 in the quarter-finals after the Welshman had eliminated World champion Mark Selby earlier on.

O’Sullivan is now eyeing a first ranking event success in Asia since lifting this trophy eight years ago, while Higgins is looking to add to his 2012 success at the Grand Stage.

The Scotsman went close to making a 147 in his commanding win over Zhou Yuelong earlier in the week, before going in-off when potting the final brown.

And he has built on that momentum by seeing off Liang Wenbo on Thursday, as well as overcoming Martin Gould in the quarter-finals.

Either world number three Judd Trump or surprise package Jack Lisowski awaits the winner of this match in Saturday’s final.

The semi-final gets underway at 11.30am GMT on Friday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Shanghai Grand Stage.
