Joe Perry produced a magnificent recovery from 3-1 down to defeat Judd Trump 6-4 for a place in the Quarter-Finals of the 2018 UK Championship, while rank outsider Martin O'Donnell denied Ding Junhui.
World number 21 Perry, a former Masters finalist, ended Trump's hopes of back-to-back ranking titles with a superb display to reach the Last Eight in York.
Trump, winner of the Northern Ireland Open, took the first frame with a break of 81 before Perry levelled with a 75.
Trump regained the lead before adding a break of 97 to go two clear, but Perry fought back after the restart and compiled a timely ton and clinched frame six to level.
World number five Trump hit back with a 100 break of his own to lead 4-3, but Cambridge cueist Perry edged back-to-back frames before powering in a sensational 136 clearance to seal victory.
"I didn't do a lot wrong when I was 3-1 down," Perry told BBC Sport.
"He is a superb player so I am chuffed to beat him.
"I am pleased with how I am playing. I am comfortable out there and I felt calm all the way through."
Trump, meanwhile, offered a blunt assessment of his own performance, admitting: "I didn't feel great the whole tournament and I played badly today.
"I just missed too many chances. Even though I didn't play well I was still in control and should have used my experience and scraped through."
O'Donnell pulled off what described as the 'biggest win of his career' as he dispatched two-time UK Champion Ding by the same scoreline.
The world number 59, who only regained his Tour Card in 2017, continued his terrific start to the season by reaching a third ranking Quarter-Final.
O'Donnell settled into the contest with a 57 break to take the first frame before Ding replied with a 63 break to level.
O'Donnell went back in front before Ding responded with consecutive breaks of 55 and 59 to lead 3-2.
The Londoner then reeled off three consecutive frames with a high break of 90 to take command but went in-off on a red in frame nine to allow Ding to keep the match alive.
However, O'Donnell seized his second opportunity to clinch the match as he secured frame ten to set up a dream show-down with defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan on Friday.
"My record here has been absolutely appalling so it's definitely the biggest win of my career," O'Donnell told Eurosport.
"I've played too cautiously for too many years.
"I've been working really hard with my coach about being aggressive and against these top players you have to take the game to them because if you go out there and look like you're afraid to win, they just pounce all over you.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play Ronnie on a big stage, obviously I'll be massive second favourite but I'm going to do the same thing, go out there and take the game to him and see what happens," he added.
