Judd Trump produced a devastating fightback from 5-2 down to edge out Jack Lisowski in a deciding frame and book his place in the Semi-Finals of the 2019 Players Championship in Preston.

Trump, the reigning World Grand Prix champion, reeled off four consecutive frames to deny his practice partner and remain in the running to clinch the lucrative Coral Cup.

The world number five had struggled to find his range for much of the early part of the match but crushed Lisowski's hopes of reaching a third ranking Semi-Final of the season by firing in a stunning century break in the final frame.

"It was a real tough game and I feel a bit sorry for him," Trump told ITV Sport.

"At 5-2 down I felt like I was out of the game, it felt like one of those games where everything was going against me but over the past few seasons I've learned to dig in and try to nick a frame at a time and stay in the game.

"It's a great win for me but it's hard to beat Jack.

"This was a huge tournament for him and a chance to get in the top eight one [Tour Championship] but in the end I managed to pot my way back into the game.

"I felt a lot better than I normally do against him, I felt a lot more comfortable, we've started playing each other quite a lot now so you've got to get used to it."

Lisowski began brightly and established a 2-0 lead before Trump got off the mark in style with a break of 106 to halve the deficit.

Lisowski, though, took the next two frames to strengthen his grip on the match, and after a 70 break led Trump to frame six, the Riga Masters runner-up replied with a break of 81 to make it 5-2.

Trump kept the match alive with a 75 break before clinching frame nine to apply further pressure, and when Lisowski faltered again, the Masters champion pounced with a half century to force a decider.

He then kept his former flatmate in his seat for the vast majority of the final frame, completing the comeback in emphatic fashion with a clearance of 113.

The afternoon session saw the completion of the First Round as John Higgins subjected world number one Mark Selby to another early exit in a ranking tournament this season.

Higgins, who reached the Semi-Finals of last week's Indian Open, showed little sign of burnout as he reeled off three consecutive frames to seal a 6-4 victory.

The opening two frames were shared before Higgins produced back-to-back breaks of 68 and 58 to move 3-1 in front.

Selby then found his range and recorded consecutive breaks of 67, 76 and 121 to move ahead for the first time in the match.

Higgins, though, hit back with breaks of 58 and 68 to wrestle back the upper-hand before taking the tenth frame by 65 points to nil to set up a Quarter-Final show-down with Ronnie O'Sullivan on Friday.

Stuart Bingham secured his place in the Last Eight at the Preston Guild Hall with a high quality 6-4 win over multiple ranking finalist David Gilbert.

Gilbert led thanks to a break of 86 before Bingham helped himself to three frames in a row with breaks of 60, 71 and 68.

A break of 56 proved insufficient for Bingham in frame five as Gilbert clawed back and went on to take the next two frames to regain the lead.

The pendulum continued to swing as Bingham sealed the next two frames to make it 5-4, before getting the over line thanks to a break of 57.

He will now face number one seed Mark Allen in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday evening.
