Ronnie O’Sullivan will play Judd Trump in the final of the 2017 Shanghai Masters following a commanding 6-2 victory over John Higgins in the Last Four on Friday.

The Rocket is into his third final in four events after recording his second win against Higgins in the space of just over a week.

O’Sullivan enjoyed a comprehensive 6-0 whitewash at the Champion of Champions last week, but fell behind at the Grand Stage as Higgins took a scrappy opening frame.

However, the five-time World champion reeled off the next three frames with breaks of 79 and 67 for a 3-1 lead at the mid-session interval.

Higgins stopped the rot with 79 to halve the deficit but O’Sullivan regained his two-frame buffer, before a wonderful double on the black moved him to the brink of victory at 5-2 ahead.

He needed no second invitation, as a wonderful break of 123 secured his place in the Shanghai Masters showpiece for the first time since he lifted the title in 2009.

Earlier in the day, Trump booked his place in the final for the third time at the Grand Stage after seeing off good friend Jack Lisowski 6-3.

The Ace, who was runner-up here in 2012 and 2015, made a strong start with runs of 52 and 70 for an early 2-0 lead but, appearing in the first ranking semi-final of his career, Lisowski replied with 79 on the way to levelling at 2-2.

Those were the first frames that Trump has dropped in Shanghai this week. However, the world number three responded after the interval with a century of 105.

World number 44 Lisowski hit back with 55 to square things up once more, but the Ace’s superiority eventually prevailed as he won the next three frames to advance to his fifth ranking event final of 2017.
