Ronnie O’Sullivan v Jack Lisowski: UK Championship 2018 preview - Jackpot aiming to ruin The Rocket's birthday

Jack Lisowski aims to spoil the party and knock Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the UK Championship on his 43rd birthday when the pair face off in a mouth-watering Last 16 clash on Wednesday.

Defending champion O'Sullivan is bidding to eclipse Steve Davis' joint record tally of six UK Championship titles and become the first player to retain this crown since Stephen Hendry back in 1996.

In the tournament which launched his career when he broke through to win the title as a fresh-faced 17-year-old back in 1993, O'Sullivan is now looking to create a further slice of history and underline his incredible longevity at the top of the sport.

O'Sullivan, who has typically made headlines off the table more so than on it this week, survived a scare from veteran Ken Doherty in Round Two to edge through a 6-5 winner before whitewashing young gun Zhou Yuelong in the Last 32.

Winner of the Shanghai Masters and Champion of Champions this season, 'The Rocket' will be braced for a tough test from one of snooker's most rapidly-rising stars.

Lisowski has proved one of the stand-out performers of the season so far, finishing runner-up in the Riga Masters and reaching the Semi-Finals of the International Championship, as well as a further three ranking Quarter-Finals.

His Third Round victory over Marco Fu put him in pole position to secure a debut spot in January's Masters, but the 27-year-old will only have his sights set on a first ever win over O'Sullivan to extend his ground-breaking run in York.

The only previous competitive meeting between the duo came in last season's English Open, with O'Sullivan prevailing 5-2 in the Quarter-Finals en route to lifting the trophy.

Their latest show-down gets underway from 1pm GMT on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames.

Either two-time UK Champion Ding Junhui or world number 56 Martin O'Donnell will await the winner in Friday's Quarter-Finals.
