Ronnie O'Sullivan set up a mouth-watering quarter-final showdown with John Higgins at the 2016 Scottish Open after a 4-2 victory over Mark Allen at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Thursday.
Problems with a new tip meant that the Rocket was far from firing on all cylinders during his win over good friend Jimmy White by the same scoreline earlier in the day.
However, following another change to his equipment, he turned things around in style with back-to-back centuries during a high-quality encounter with Allen.
O'Sullivan came flying out of the blocks with quickfire breaks of 104 and 103 giving him a 2-0 lead, but the Pistol came back firing with a run of 74 to halve the deficit.
The two-frame buffer was restored as the 28-time ranking event winner made 85 and, despite Allen replying with 80, victory was secured in the next with a run of 51 along the way.

That set up another eagerly anticipated clash with Higgins in what will be a repeat of the Champion of Champions final last month, which the Scotsman won 10-7.
The four-time world champion ensured his passage courtesy of a couple of whitewashes over Mei Xi Wen and Dominic Dale, meaning he has only dropped a single frame so far this week.
Judd Trump also advanced to the quarter-finals after an impressive 4-2 victory over Kyren Wilson in which he responded to losing the opening frame by winning four of the next five.
Despite dropping his first frame of the tournament in the opener, the European Masters champion pounced on missed reds from Wilson with breaks of 69 and 81 to lead - the latter saw him miss the 11th black during an attempt for a 147.
The world number three then clinched a tight fourth frame on the pink and, although the Ace lost the next, he punished another wasted opportunity by the Warrior to progress.
Trump will play Robert Milkins in the Last Eight, after the Milkman held his nerve to prevail in a deciding frame against Northern Ireland Open semi-finalist Anthony Hamilton.
Elsewhere, there was no joy for Neil Robertson, who was edged out 4-3 by Marco Fu in another seventh and final frame.
Having made three centuries in his 4-0 whitewash over Robin Hull earlier on Thursday, Fu came flying out of the blocks with a stunning total clearance of 141.
Robertson hit back with a run of 79 on the way to taking the lead, but the Hong Kong cueist levelled once more after clinching what turned out to be a crucial fourth frame on a re-spotted black.
A 96 moved Fu back in front and, despite the Australian forcing a decider with 71, the world number 14 dominated proceedings to advance.
Fu will play Mark Davis, who also came through a final-frame shootout against Mark Williams.
Davis made a break of 109 on the way to taking a 2-0 lead, but was pegged back to trail 3-2 after the two-time world champion reeled off three frames on the spin.
Nevertheless, the Battler from Hastings regained his composure by taking the next before winning the decider on the colours to book a third quarter-final appearance of the season.
Meanwhile, Liang Wenbo also came out on top in the final frame as he put Barry Hawkins to the sword.
Despite being pegged back from 2-0 and 3-2 up by the Northern Ireland Open finalist, the English Open winner held his nerve before producing a brilliant clearance from the final red to pink to set up an all-Chinese clash with Yu De Lu, who recovered from 3-2 down to see off Sean O'Sullivan by the same scoreline.
