Mark Williams opened up a 10-7 lead over John Higgins following the first two sessions of the 2018 World Championship final at The Crucible on Sunday.

Williams, who battled through an epic late-night clash with Barry Hawkins in the Semi-Finals on Saturday, showed little sign of fatigue as he took control of the final at the halfway stage.

Having tweeted from a Sheffield kebab house at 2.15am and helped himself to some sweets from a member of the audience during the first session, Williams gave Higgins food for thought as he took the first four frames without reply.

Higgins got off the mark in style with a 119 break after the mid-session interval but Williams soon restored a four-fame advantage courtesy of a break of 95.

Higgins, though compiled consecutive breaks of 52 and 59 to reduce the deficit to 5-3 heading in to the evening session.

It was Williams who drew first blood when the players re-emerged as he made a 72 break, but Higgins hit back with breaks of 51 and 127 to remain on the Welshman's coattails.

Williams then took frame 12 before Higgins fired in back-to-back breaks of 56 and 117 to level the match for the first time since the opening frame.

Williams, however, assumed command once more as he produced a sensational 118 clearance and followed it up with a 64 break before edging frame 17 to go three clear overnight.

Play will resume from 2pm BST on Monday for a further eight frames before being played to a finish from 7pm that evening.

The winner will pocket a record £425,000 top prize and become the oldest World Champion since Ray Reardon back in 1978.
