Stephen Maguire stormed into the final stages of the 2017 China Open following a comprehensive 5-0 whitewash of Boonyarit Keattikun, while David Gilbert and Alan McManus also enjoyed comfortable wins on the final day of qualifying at the Preston Guild Hall.

Maguire, who lifted this title in 2008 after beating Shaun Murphy 10-9 in a thrilling final, secured a return to Beijing in dominant fashion on Friday.

The Scotsman opened with a break of 61 and won the next two frames, before a run of 65 opened up a commanding 4-0 lead over the 21-year-old Thai at the mid-session interval.

World number 25 Maguire needed no second invitation after the break as he crashed in a stunning 125 to put the icing on the cake, and get his quest to return to the top 16 off to the best possible start.

Gilbert also advanced to the final stages in fairly straightforward fashion with breaks of 64, 89, 55 and 93 securing a resounding 5-1 win over Kurt Dunham and setting up a clash with Andrew Higgins, who made five half-centuries as he overcame Christopher Keogan by the same scoreline.

McManus also claimed a 5-1 victory against Chen Zhe and will play another former Masters champion in Beijing in Matthew Stevens, who was a 5-3 winner against Irish amateur, Josh Boileau.

Elsewhere, former finalist Jamie Cope secured a return to the Chinese capital after seeing off Rod Lawler 5-2, while Jimmy Robertson came from 2-0 down to eventually prevail a 5-3 victor against Cao Yupeng.

Gareth Allen will play Ronnie O'Sullivan in the Last 64 after withstanding a stubborn fightback from 4-1 down by Robin Hull to eventually scrape over the line, and Alfie Burden could face world number one Mark Selby after a 5-2 triumph over Akani Songsermsawad.

The other matches saw Paul Davison claim a 5-3 victory over Joe Swail, while Li Hang came out on top in his all-Chinese clash with Fang Xiongman by the same scoreline.
