Ronnie O’Sullivan stormed through to the final stages of the International Championship following a 6-0 whitewash of Gerard Greene in the qualifying round, while Judd Trump and Luca Brecel were also among the winners at the Preston Guild Hall on Friday.

The Rocket was making his first appearance in competitive play since the China Championship, but was certainly firing on all cylinders with breaks of 80 and 74 before finishing with a stunning 112 clearance.

O’Sullivan was on the back foot in the first frame as world number 103 Greene opened with a run of 51, but fought his way back into it and overturning the deficit to draw first blood.

A break of 80 doubled his lead before Greene threatened to halve the deficit in frame three. However, a missed black off its spot at 63-0 to the good was ruthlessly punished by the Rocket, who cleared with 74 for 3-0.

Another run of 80 pulled him further clear and a dominant fifth frame moved him to the brink of victory, which he secured in style with a magnificent clearance of 112.

O’Sullivan is joined in the final stages by world number four Trump, for whom a break of 109 was the highlight in his 6-0 rout of Chris Totten, while China Championship Brecel also reeled off six frames without reply to sweep aside Allan Taylor.

Kyren Wilson hit a top break of 126 on the way to a 6-2 win over Rhys Clark – the same scoreline that saw Jack Lisowski overcome Lukas Kleckers and Dominic Dale and Ben Woollaston overcome Jackson Page and Jak Jones respectively.

However, there was no joy for Michael White, as the Paul Hunter Classic champion was ousted 6-3 by Eden Sharav, who made four breaks over 80 in an impressive victory.

Meanwhile, the in-form Li Hang fought back from 5-2 down to stun Soheil Vahedi 6-5, as Mark King overturned a 4-2 deficit by winning the last four frames against Christopher Keogan.

Elsewhere, Oliver Lines was a commanding 6-1 winner over Hamza Akbar and Hossein Vafaei enjoyed a 6-4 success against Duane Jones, as did Li Yuan and Niu Zhuang against Sam Baird and Noppon Saengkham respectively.
