Stuart Bingham enjoyed a comfortable passage into the final stages of the 2017 International Championship following a commanding 6-1 victory over Sean O’Sullivan in the qualifying round on Tuesday, while Ryan Day and Michael Holt also safely progressed at the Preston Guild Hall.

World number 11 Bingham has endured a difficult start to the season but showed no signs of struggling here – hitting a top break of 118 on the way to brushing aside his fellow Essex cueist.

The former World champion opened with a run of 69 on the way to taking a 2-0 lead and, despite O’Sullivan responding with 75, controlled the fourth frame to regain breathing space at the mid-session interval.

It was all very much one-way traffic after the break, though, as Bingham rattled in breaks of 118, 76 and 68 to book his place in Daqing next month.

He is joined in the main draw by Riga Masters champion Day, who hit five breaks over 50 in his convincing 6-1 win over Chen Zifan, while Michael Holt eased past Leo Fernandez by the same scoreline.

Joe Perry is also through after enjoying a 6-3 victory over Paul Davison, as did Gary Wilson and Tian Pengfei against Thor Chuan Leong and James Wattana respectively.

Meanwhile, Tom Ford prevailed a narrow 6-5 winner against Scott Donaldson and Robbie Williams ousted Zhang Anda in a decider, but Thepchaiya Un-Nooh was on the wrong end of an 11-frame thriller with Sam Craigie.

Jamie Jones was another of the world’s top 64 to topple on Tuesday after going down 6-3 against John Astley, while Alfie Burden was thumped 6-1 by Mei Xi Wen.

Elsewhere, Alan McManus was a 6-2 victor over Rod Lawler, as was Andrew Higginson against Josh Boileau.
