Liam Highfield and Lyu Haotian will make their debuts in the 2018 World Championship after coming through the qualifying rounds at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The 32-man field is complete after the final eight places were filled on Wednesday evening, with the players in questions putting their names in the hat for the draw on Thursday.

World number 64 Highfield has lost in the final qualifying round of the World Championship on two occasions – notably in a deciding frame against Sam Baird in 2016.

However, he made it third time lucky in 2018 after seeing out a comfortable 10-4 victory over Daniel Wells.

“To qualify for the Crucible for the first time is a dream come true,” Highfield said. “I’m just going to play it down and see how it goes.”

Meanwhile, world number 68 Lyu made a top break of 113 on the way to completing his comprehensive 10-2 success over Rory McLeod – ensuring that there will be four debutants in this year’s World Championship.

Elsewhere, Jimmy Robertson secured his fourth appearance at the Crucible, where he will be aiming to progress beyond the opening round for the first time, after recovering from 7-6 down to see off Michael White 10-7.

“I’m over the moon,” he reflected. “It’s a massive tournament and it’s nice to get through. Hopefully, I can try and get a result this year.”

Stephen Maguire will play in the final stages for a 15th consecutive year as he withstood Hossein Vafaei’s fightback from 6-3 down to level at 7-7, before prevailing a 10-7 winner.

Two-time ranking event winner Ryan Day also kept his nerve despite seeing former World champion Peter Ebdon level at 6-6 from 6-3 down, as he reeled off the last four frames to progress.

“I’m relieved to come through qualifying,” he said. “It’s been my best season in every aspect.
“I’ve been playing with lots of confidence. The last couple of months, in particular, have been good for me.”

Jack Lisowski secured his first appearance at the Crucible since 2013 after making breaks of 114 and 104 to round off a 10-3 victory over three-time semi-finalist Alan McManus.

“I’m very happy to beat someone as good and experienced as Alan,” he said.
“I’m happy with my performance over the two days, so I’m looking forward to the Crucible now.”

Jamie Jones needed little time to wrap up his 10-0 whitewash of a helpless Liang Wenbo – booking a return to the Crucible for the first time since his debut in 2012 – while Xiao Guodong also made light work of home favourite Adam Duffy to seal a thumping 10-1 rout.
