Graeme Dott believes Barry Hawkins is ready-made for Crucible success

Graeme Dott believes Barry Hawkins has the “all-round perfect game” and considers it to be “ideal” in his quest to capture the 2017 World Championship crown.

Dott was outclassed by the high-flying Hawk in their second-round showdown at the Crucible on Monday - losing nine out of 10 frames from 2-0 up, before eventually going down 13-6 against the 2013 finalist.

Despite recovering from 9-3 down on Sunday to only trail 10-6 overnight, the 2006 champion saw his hopes quickly disappear as Hawkins reeled off three frames in just under an hour in their final session.

And the Pocket Dynamo is confident that the Ditton cueist can go all the way in Sheffield and win his first World title.

“I really don’t see why he can’t go and win it,” he told livesnooker.com. “I said that to him when I shook his hand at the end.

“His safety is fantastic and his long potting is ridiculous, especially from the cushions – he just doesn’t miss any long reds from there.

“Barry’s got an all-round perfect game and it’s ideal for what you need here.”

The defeat brought an end to a generally disappointing campaign for Dott, although he drew on the positives of qualifying for an 18th time and reaching the second round.

He recently started working with new coach Chris Henry, who has overseen the fortunes of the likes of Stephen Hendry, Shaun Murphy, Jimmy White and Peter Ebdon, and is confident that the future is bright with him in his corner.

“My game was in bits at the start of the year, but I’ve started playing better towards the end,” he explained.

“I’m glad this season’s finished – it’s been a bit of a disaster other than the World Championship.

“I’m looking forward to working with Chris and trying to be better prepared for next season. Hopefully, having a full season with him, I’ll play quite well.”
