The ever-popular ‘Whirlwind’ begins his road to York against one of the game’s hottest emerging talents – Pankaj Advani – India’s leading billiards and snooker star.

The People’s Champion still maintains a place within the world’s top 48 on the professional tour and remains one of the game’s greatest ambassadors, with his love for the sport as strong as ever despite wins becoming few and far between.

White is bidding to make only his second appearance in the main event of snooker’s second biggest ranking tournament since 2005 and will be out to reproduce the sort of magic that won him this title back in 1992.

Should White prevail from this second round tie, he would face fellow legend of the game – Steve Davis – in a mouth-watering and nostalgic third round showdown, an added incentive for the 50-year-old.

The left-hander, however, faces a tricky opening tie against 27-year-old Advani, a man better known for his success on the Billiards scene, having won everything there is to be won in the world of Billiards, a feat achieved by no other.

Advani joined the main snooker this season and is currently ranked at 71, but demonstrated his calibre by winning four qualifying matches to win through to the 2012 International Championship, however he decided to withdraw from the tournament in order to take part in the World Billiards Championship, which he went on to win.

Both players are prolific break builders when given ample chances in among the balls and are certain to provide a highly entertaining encounter as the feature match of Wednesday’s first session.

The duo are yet to meet in any major competition but will go head-to-head in a hugely important encounter for the right to face six-time World Champion Steve Davis in the penultimate qualifying round.

The match begins at 9.30am BST and will be streamed live over the best of 11 frames from the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield.
