Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump face off in a mouth-watering Semi-Final at the World Masters of Snooker in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

A repeat of this season’s World Grand Prix final sees the two box office stars collide in Riyadh as they bid to remain in contention to become the inaugural champion.

A staggering £250,000 top prize is up for grabs this evening, in addition to a $500,000 bonus for an historic 167 break – which includes the unique golden ball.

O’Sullivan already has four televised titles to his name this season, mostly notably the UK Championship and Masters, setting up the possibility of a first seasonal Triple Crown as he heads to The Crucible in search of a record-breaking eighth World Championship title next month.

The world number one has handpicked his playing schedule in recent months, opting out of the German Masters and Welsh Open in favour of more lucrative events in Asia and the Middle East.

He did, however, compete in the Players Championship a fortnight ago and was on the receiving end of a 6-0 demolition at the hands of Mark Selby in the Quarter-Finals.

O’Sullivan returned to action in the Championship League last week before pulling out of the second day of fixtures, and he kicked off his campaign in Riyadh with an emphatic 4-0 whitewash of John Higgins, firing in a hat-trick of century breaks in a match lasting little over an hour.

Trump, meanwhile, recovered from 2-0 and 3-2 down to edge out Shaun Murphy in his opener on Tuesday and is bidding for a fifth title of the season.

The world number two has claimed the English Open, Wuhan Open, Northern Ireland Open and German Masters titles in a sensational season so far, and was denied glory at the World Grand Prix by O’Sullivan – who prevailed 10-7 in the final.

Trump, who also finished runner-up in the European Masters and Champion of Champions, is eyeing a first win over ‘The Rocket’ since 2020, having lost their last four consecutive contests.

That run includes the 2022 World Championship final, in which the pair shared an infamously long embrace at the end of the match as O’Sullivan secured a record-equalling seventh Crucible crown.

Their latest battle gets under way from around 4pm GMT and will be contested over the best of seven frames, with either World Champion Luca Brecel or Mark Allen awaiting the winner in tonight’s final.
