Mark Allen is the highest-ranked player in action as the first round of the 2018 Snooker Shoot-Out draws to a close on Friday afternoon, while Kyren Wilson and Luca Brecel also enter the fray at the Watford Colosseum.

The unique shot-clock competition continues with the 24 remaining first-round matches taking place during the afternoon session, before round two gets underway in the evening.

World number nine Allen will be aiming to go one better in this event, having reached the final in 2013 before losing out to Martin Gould.

The Pistol is full of momentum after winning the Masters last month but shall not take anything for granted against his first-round opponent Tom Ford, who has beaten the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan in this tournament.

Allen lifted the trophy at the Alexandra Palace following his 10-7 victory over Kyren Wilson, who is one of two other top-16 players entering the action on Friday.

Wilson faces a tricky test against Ricky Walden as 2016 finalist Luca Brecel’s quest to go one step better begins against Jimmy Robertson.

Meanwhile, world number 17 Ryan Day’s latest mission to climb back into the elite bracket sees him open against Michael Holt.

Michael White, who won this event in 2015, launches his quest for title number two against Andrew Higginson, while 2011 finalist Robert Milkins locks horns with Alfie Burden.

There are two former World champions on display in Watford with 2002 winner Peter Ebdon up against Soheil Vahedi, as 2006 victor Graeme Dott faces Chinese prodigy Yan Bingtao.

Yan is one of several exciting young talents in action on Friday. Oliver Lines takes on Cao Yupeng, while Zhou Yuelong and Zhao Xintong play Gerard Greene and Matthew Stevens respectively.

Play gets underway at 12pm GMT at the Watford Colosseum, with each match consisting of just a single frame lasting 10 minutes.

There will be a 15-second shot clock in operation for the first five minute, while players will have just 10 seconds for the last five minutes.

The draw for the second round will take place at the conclusion of the first, and that will commence from 7pm GMT.
