Gary Wilson blasts “disgusting” table conditions following World Championship Semi-Final defeat

Gary Wilson has branded the table conditions as “disgusting” following his 17-11 defeat to Judd Trump in the Semi-Finals of the World Championship on Saturday.

Wilson, the world number 32, had come through the qualifying rounds to reach the penultimate stage of the sport's show-piece for the first time, having previously never won a match at The Crucible.

The Wallsend cueist, however, saw his hopes of a fairy-tale triumph crushed by Trump - who pulled clear by taking four of the last five frames to reach his second world final.

Wilson was heavily critical of how the table played throughout the match, but admitted he lost to the better player.

"To be honest, that was disappointing," said Wilson. "The table was disgusting.

"First and foremost, Judd deserved to win, I wasn't good enough today at all or yesterday.

"I've got to say, that table is disgusting.

"He [Trump] said it himself as well, it's running off all over the place, you're getting square bounces, kicks every other shot.

"It's not an excuse, it's just simply saying that I struggled myself but that made it even worse.

"I found it difficult to score and difficult to even play the right shot half the time."

Wilson's landmark run saw him knock out Luca Brecel, Mark Selby and Ali Carter en route to the Last Four, scooping £100,000 in prize money to launch him up into the world's top 20.

The former taxi driver admits he struggled to get to grips with the table and feels that had a major impact on the overall standard of the contest.

He added: "In the early rounds they were spot on, I can't understand how you can make such a bad job of it when you get it down to one table.

"Judd's already said the same thing and John [Higgins] said he was getting bad bounces.

"It's just a shame, I feel like the game was spoiled a little bit.

"I didn't play well, it's not an excuse, it's my own fault but it didn't help.

"I just couldn't play well enough, I didn't deserve to win a session - I just wasn't good enough.

"I'm over the moon I've got so far but I still believed deep down, I wanted to try and win.

"I just feel it's a bit of a shame the way I've played the last couple of days.

"It's not a surprise because that's the way I generally play but it's just frustrating."
