Champion of Champions 2023 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
Luca Brecel headlines day two of the 2023 Champion of Champions, while Mark Williams is also in action at the Bolton Whites Hotel on Tuesday.
Indeed, there are two World champions in Group 2, along with one of the season’s form players in European Masters winner Barry Hawkins, and the returning Robert Milkins.
Brecel faces Hawkins in the first match of the day and what is a repeat of their last-16 showdown in Nuremberg, which the Hawk won 5-4 on his way to lifting the trophy.
The reigning World champion has struggled to build on the momentum of his Crucible triumph. Despite reaching the Shanghai Masters final, he is yet to progress beyond the last 16 of any ranking event this season.
The Bullet has also lost his opening match in his three most recent Champion of Champions appearances since reaching the semi-finals on debut in 2017.
Meanwhile, Hawkins returns to the prestigious event after a five-year absence, and is targeting his first appearance in the last four.
As well as his European Masters triumph, the Hawk has also reached the Northern Ireland Open semi-finals and International Championship quarter-finals this term.
The winner of that match will play either Williams or Milkins in the Group 2 final later in the day, with both players seeking their first win in the tournament.
After missing out last year, Williams is also returning to the Champion of Champions following his success at the British Open last month, while he was also runner-up to Shaun Murphy at the Championship League earlier in the season.
As for reigning Welsh Open champion Milkins, he is looking to reignite a campaign in which he reached Stage 3 at the Championship League and the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals, before suffering first-round exits at the Northern Ireland Open and International Championship.
Play gets under way at 1pm GMT on Tuesday with the two Group Semi-Finals being contested over the best of seven frames.
The Group Final will then commence at 7pm and be played over the best of 11 at the Bolton Whites Hotel.
