Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump lock horns in a blockbuster 2022 Champion of Champions final at the Bolton Whites Hotel on Sunday.

The top two seeds go head to head in what is a repeat of their Crucible showpiece showdown in May, when O’Sullivan prevailed 18-13 to land his magnificent seventh World crown.

It will also be the second time they contest the final of this event, having also faced off in 2014 with the Rocket securing a 10-7 victory after a high-quality encounter that produced six centuries and a further 11 breaks over 50.

Neutrals will certainly be hoping for more of the same as the two crowd favourites do battle for the title and top prize of £150,000.

Despite those defeats, Trump has generally enjoyed the better of finals between the pair, winning eight of the 12 previous such meetings.

The Ace is one win away from completing a successful title defence and joining three-time champion O’Sullivan as one of only three multiple winners of this tournament, along with Neil Robertson (two).

Trump dropped only three frames as he overcame Luca Brecel and Mark Allen in Group One. He then withstood a Mark Selby fightback in the semi-finals, eventually advancing a 6-3 winner after the Jester recovered from 3-1 down to level at 3-3.

Meanwhile, O’Sullivan also let just three frames slip on the way to Group Two glory, seeing off debutants Robert Milkins (4-2) and Zhao Xintong (6-1).

The seven-time World champion then coasted past another player making his Champion of Champions bow in the semi-finals, avenging his shock defeat by Fan Zhengyi in the European Masters showpiece earlier this year with a commanding 6-2 success over the 21-year-old.

It promises to be a mouth-watering clash between two of the most naturally gifted players ever to raise a cue, with the best of 19 frames determining who will reign supreme at the Bolton Whites Hotel on Sunday.

Play gets underway at 1pm GMT with the opening nine frames, before a maximum of 10 from 7pm will determine the winner of the 2022 Champion of Champions.
