Judd Trump looks to maintain his impressive form against Mark Selby when they collide in a mouth-watering Champion of Champions semi-final.
The players ranked third and fourth in the world respectively go toe to toe in what promises to be a Friday night thriller at the Bolton Whites Hotel, with Ronnie O’Sullivan or Fan Zhengyi awaiting in Sunday’s showpiece.
Although you would expect a closely fought encounter between two ever-presents at the prestigious invitational event, the recent head-to-head record would make Trump a strong favourite here.
Indeed, outside the Championship League and WST Pro Series, the Ace has won each of the last four meetings between the players, as well as all three previous semi-final showdowns.
Trump was also a commanding 6-1 winner in their only previous Champion of Champions clash, which occurred on this day eight years ago.
The reigning champion made a strong start to his title defence on Wednesday; dropping just three frames against Luca Brecel and Mark Allen on the way to Group One glory.
The Bristolian is now set for his fifth semi-final appearance at this event – prevailing in three of his previous four such matches – and is just two victories away from becoming only the third multiple winner after O’Sullivan (three) and Neil Robertson (two).
Meanwhile, Selby is hoping this is the year he finally ends the wait to get his hands on this trophy.
Appearing in the last four for the third time, having also featured at this stage in 2013 and 2020, the Jester is now aiming to advance to his maiden showpiece.
The four-time World champion looked impressive on Monday as he whitewashed Lee Walker 4-0, before battling past John Higgins to reach only his second semi-final since capturing that fourth Crucible crown 18 months ago.
Play gets underway at 7pm GMT on Friday with the match contested over the best of 11 frames at the Bolton Whites Hotel.
