Joe Perry and Dominic Dale go head to head in a tasty World Seniors Championship tie, as the quarter-finals take centre stage at The Crucible on Friday.

The two recently retired professionals are among five debutants still standing in Sheffield, along with one former champion, a former runner-up and a crowd favourite.

Perry and Dale face off in one of the standout ties of the last eight, with both having looked impressive during the opening round.

Former Welsh Open champion Perry hit breaks of 94, 76 and 76 on his way to a 4-2 victory over Pan-American Seniors champion Fabio Anderson Luersen. Meanwhile, a contribution of 104 was the highlight for former Grand Prix and Shanghai Masters winner Dominic Dale, who beat European Seniors champion Craig Steadman by the same scoreline.

Another mouth-watering tie pits Tony Drago against 2023 finalist Alfie Burden, who defeated four-time champion Jimmy White in round one.

Drago twice came from behind to edge out Gerard Greene 4-3 on Thursday, and now looks to reach his third successive semi-final at The Crucible.

Meanwhile, Burden’s quest to go the extra step from two years ago began with him avenging his defeat by White in that final with an impressive 4-1 victory.

Elsewhere, Charl Jonck’s reward for beating Ken Doherty on his Crucible bow is a clash with fellow debutant Hassen Kerde.

African Seniors champion Jonck’s debut looked like it may be a swift one when he trailed 2-0 against two-time runner-up Doherty. However, breaks of 64 and 63 helped him reel off the next four frames for an impressive turnaround.

Asia-Pacific Seniors champion Kerde was also in fine fettle, as breaks of 66, 62, 59 and 53 sealed a 4-0 whitewash of former world number two Tony Knowles.

The other tie puts 2018 champion Aaron Canavan against another Crucible first-timer in Wayne Townsend.

Canavan’s quest to become the second multiple winner of this event began with a 4-2 win over Andrew Norman, in which he made a break of 89.

As for Townsend, he claimed an emotional 4-2 victory to dethrone reigning champion Igor Figueiredo, winning two frames on the black along the way.

Play breaks off at 12pm BST on Friday with all matches contested over the best of seven frames at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
