Chris Wakelin v Stephen Hendry live stream | British Open 2021 preview – Crucible king aims to kick-start season

Stephen Hendry begins his second comeback season with a clash against Chris Wakelin in Round One of the 2021 British Open in Leicester on Tuesday.

Seven-time World Champion Hendry made a shock return to the professional circuit last year, coming out of retirement after an eight-year absence.

The 52-year-old made just two tournament appearances last season, losing 4-1 to Matthew Selt in Round One of the Gibraltar Open before defeating rival Jimmy White 6-3 in the World Championship qualifiers.

His quest for an immediate Crucible return was eventually ended by China’s Xu Si – who ran out a 6-1 winner in the Second Qualifying Round.

Hendry has vowed to compete with more regularity this season, and after skipping the recent Championship League, looks to get off and running with a win against world number 59 Wakelin.

Wakelin is a four-time ranking event quarter-finalist, most recently at the Gibraltar Open back in March.

The Warwickshire cueist came through the qualifying rounds to reach the main stages of the World Championship in both 2018 and 2021, losing out to Judd Trump and David Gilbert at the first hurdle on each occasion.

He now comes up against Hendry for the first time in professional competition, having joined the circuit in 2013.

The match gets under way from around 8pm BST at the Morningside Arena and will be contested over the best of five frames.
