Mark Selby and Mark Allen go head to head in a mouth-watering quarter-final clash at the British Open on Friday.

The only two remaining top-16 players collide in a battle of the Marks at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, with a place in the last four of the competition up for grabs.

Selby is appearing in only his second ranking quarter-final since winning his fourth World title at the Crucible 16 months ago – the only other occasion seeing him reach the World Grand Prix semi-finals.

But the Jester has demonstrated plenty of signs that he is getting back to his brilliant best this week; most notably producing that magical maximum break during his fourth-round victory over Jack Lisowski.

The world number three has endured a relatively untroubled route to the last eight, having also seen off Ricky Walden, Mark Joyce and Cao Yupeng, but knows that Allen will provide his sternest test yet.

Although the Pistol has lost the last two meetings between the players, he has prevailed in each of their three most recent quarter-final encounters.

Allen will also hold fond memories of the thumping 9-2 rout he inflicted on Selby in the 2020 Tour Championship semi-finals.

Having lost four stone during the off-season, the world number 14 looks like a man on a mission this week after putting Stuart Carrington, Li Hang and 2021 runner-up Gary Wilson to the sword.

Allen then demonstrated wonderful character against fellow left-hander Judd Trump, who had recovered from 2-0 down to force a decider in their fourth-round clash, as he held his nerve to reach his fourth ranking quarter-final of 2022.

The winner will play either Noppon Saengkham or Jamie Jones in this year’s British Open semi-finals at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

The match gets underway at 1pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of nine frames.
