Kyren Wilson scraped through to the English Open fourth round after a marvellous 62 clearance snatched a dramatic 4-3 victory against Ben Woollaston on Wednesday.

The world number five was involved in a high-quality contest with the former Welsh Open finalist at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

Wilson made breaks of 69, 65, 70 and 100 to open up a 3-1 lead. However Woollaston, who had an earlier contribution of 72, responded with two runs of 70 to force a decider.

The Leicester cueist was on the brink of completing a wonderful turnaround as he opened with 68.

But the Warrior produced a sublime 62 clearance to snatch frame and match on the final black.

Elsewhere, reigning champion Judd Trump claimed his 10th successive victory at the English Open with a 4-1 win over Steven Hallworth, while 2020 finalist Neil Robertson recovered from 2-1 down with breaks of 106 and 79 completing a 4-2 success against Sunny Akani.

However, Barry Hawkins and Anthony McGill were denied a place in the fourth round.

Hawkins went down 4-1 against Robbie Williams, as McGill was whitewashed 4-0 by compatriot Ross Muir.

Earlier in the day, Ronnie O’Sullivan scored 461 unanswered points during a 4-1 win over Michael Georgiou.

Despite losing a scrappy opener, the Rocket was soon firing on all cylinders; a scintillating scoring display saw him reel off breaks of 82, 127, 129 and 108 without reply.

Former German Masters champion Martin Gould was in a similar mood; the Pinner Potter had contributions of 105, 83, 83 and 115 as he whitewashed Scott Donaldson while outscoring the Scotsman 421-16.

Championship League winner David Gilbert hit centuries of 101 and 109 in a 4-1 victory over Martin O’Donnell, while Shaun Murphy reeled off four successive frames from 2-0 down with a magnificent 138 total clearance completing his 4-2 win against Joe O’Connor.

Ding Junhui and Masters champion Yan Bingtao were 4-1 winners against Tian Pengfei and Nigel Bond respectively, but two-time World finalist Ali Carter was beaten 4-2 by Li Hang.
