English Open Snooker 2025 | Day Six Preview and Order of Play
Judd Trump begins his quest for a third English Open title on Tuesday, with reigning champion Neil Robertson also in action in Brentwood.
The world number one lifted the Steve Davis Trophy in 2020 and 2023, producing an inspired comeback from 7-3 down to stun Zhang Anda 9-7 in the latter year’s showpiece.
Trump is the most successful player in the Home Nations Series with six titles, though it is almost two years since his most recent at the 2023 Northern Ireland Open.
The Ace will be eager to end that wait and claim his first silverware of 2025. The first obstacle he must overcome is Michael Holt, while World champion Zhao Xintong locks horns with Ishpreet Singh Chadha.
Robertson joined Trump on two English Open titles following his success 12 months ago, which ended his ranking silverware drought after nearly two-and-a-half years.
The Thunder, who captured the lucrative Saudi Arabia Masters crown last month, begins his title defence against Sunny Akani, as fellow left-hander Mark Allen goes head to head with Scott Donaldson.
Xiao Guodong – fresh from successfully defending his Wuhan Open crown – goes up against compatriot Gong Chenzhi. The season’s other ranking event winner, Stephen Maguire faces a tricky test in Aaron Hill, who made a 147 during his second-round win over Yao Pengcheng.
Gary Wilson – runner-up to Xiao in Wuhan – takes on Sanderson Lam, with 2023 English Open runner-up Zhang playing Anthony McGill.
Stuart Bingham, who lifted this trophy in 2018, locks horns with Dylan Emery, while a tasty battle of the left-handers pits Jack Lisowski against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.
Former World finalists Ali Carter and Jak Jones play Marco Fu and Jamie Jones respectively, as three-time ranking finalist Joe O’Connor goes head to head with three-time ranking event winner Ricky Walden.
Play gets under way at 10am BST on Tuesday with all matches contested over the best of seven frames at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.
