Ronnie O’Sullivan resumes his quest for a maiden European Masters title with a Quarter-Final clash against Tom Ford on Friday.

O’Sullivan, who picked up the World Grand Prix title in December, has taken advantage of the departure of a number of big names in his section of the draw this week, defeating Nigel Bond, Zhang Anda, Wu Yize and Ashley Hugill with four centuries to his name.

The Rocket is chasing down the world number one spot for the fifth time as he bids to go one step further than his runner-up spot in this event back in 2016.

O’Sullivan has barely been out of second gear in Milton Keynes so far and has been installed as odds-on favourite in places to capture this title and take his overall ranking tally to 39.

The 46-year-old has been ultra-consistent this season, underlined by the fact he is through to his sixth consecutive ranking Quarter-Final.

Ford, meanwhile, finds himself in a second ranking Quarter-Final of the season, having notably pulled off a sensational 5-0 whitewash of John Higgins in the Last 32, sandwiched between 5-3 wins over Ian Burns and Fraser Patrick.

The Leicester ace is making only his third appearance in this event and is now aiming to blow the tournament wide open by knocking out the red hot favourite.

Ford have five competitive maximums to his name and reached his only ranking final to date at the 2016 Paul Hunter Classic – losing out to Mark Selby 4-2.

O’Sullivan has won five of his six previous meetings with Ford, including the Semi-Finals of the 2018 UK Championship, and is eyeing a place in a fourth ranking Semi-Final of the season.

Their latest encounter gets under way from 7pm GMT, with either Liang Wenbo or Anthony McGill awaiting the winner in Saturday’s Semi-Finals.
