O’Sullivan and Fan collide in Milton Keynes

Ronnie O’Sullivan bids for his 39th ranking title when he faces Fan Zhengyi in the 2022 European Masters final on Sunday.

Youth collides with experience for a top prize of £80,000 at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

The Rocket has been firing on all cylinders for most of the week on the way to reaching his 60th ranking event final.

Although, he has done so without facing a player inside the world’s top 25; world number 26 Tom Ford his highest-ranked opponent along the way.

Nevertheless, the six-time World champion has compiled nine centuries in six matches; two of which came during his commanding 6-2 victory over good friend Liang Wenbo in the semi-finals.

Liang is one of three Chinese cueists to have been cast aside by the Rocket this week, along with Wu Yize and Zhang Anda.

Another stands in the way of the World Grand Prix champion landing his second silverware of the season, while climbing to the top of the BetVictor European Series list.

Indeed, Fan is looking to become the 71st different ranking event winner in what will be his maiden final.

Already guaranteed to climb to 50th in the rankings, the world number 80 would move into the world’s top 30 with victory.

The 21-year-old, who reached the German Masters quarter-finals last month, has claimed some notable scalps already this week; defeating Kyren Wilson, Yan Bingtao, David Gilbert and former World champion Graeme Dott.

The former World Under-21s champion will now look to take the biggest of them all to get his hands on the trophy.

Play gets underway at 1pm GMT with the opening eight frames, before a maximum of 11 will commence from 7pm at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
