Judd Trump v Barry Hawkins live stream | European Masters Final Preview
Judd Trump and Barry Hawkins go head to head in Nuremberg on Sunday for the right to be crowned the 2023 European Masters champion.
The second ranking final of the 2023-24 season brings a battle of the left-handers, with the best of 17 frames determining who will lift the trophy at the Metropol Arena.
Between them, they have recorded 10 centuries this week and a further 32 breaks over 50.
And if the head-to-head record is anything to go by, we should be in for a cracking contest with five of the last seven meetings between the players going to a deciding frame.
Hawkins has won nine of their 16 encounters, including three of the last four, but Trump was a 6-5 winner in their most recent clash at the Masters in January.
The Ace is aiming to complete a hat-trick of European Masters titles, having also lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2017.
Seeking his first ranking event silverware since winning the Turkish Masters 17 months ago, this would be Trump’s 24th such triumph – moving him level with Mark Williams as the joint-most successful left-hander.
It has been a week of contrasting victories for the Bristolian. Indeed, he whitewashed Mohamed Ibrahim, Jordan Brown and Ben Woollaston while overcoming Ashley Carty 5-1, but came through in a deciding frame against Chris Wakelin and from 4-2 down against John Higgins in the semi-finals.
Hawkins also came through a closely fought semi-final, beating good friend Mark Selby 6-4 to secure his return to the world’s top 16.
He has also defeated reigning World champion Luca Brecel and Noppon Saengkham this week, as well as James Cahill and Zak Surety.
The Hawk is now appearing in the European Masters showpiece for the second year running, and will certainly hope for an improvement from his resounding 9-3 defeat against Kyren Wilson 12 months ago.
Hawkins is also looking to end his six-year ranking title drought – his most recent success coming at the 2017 World Grand Prix – but has lost each of his last four such finals.
Nevertheless, he will be buoyed by the fact he has beaten Trump on the way to winning two of his three previous ranking titles – doing so at that World Grand Prix as well as the 2014 Players Championship.
Play gets underway at 1pm BST on Sunday with the opening eight frames, before resuming at 7pm with a maximum of nine to determine this winner of the 2023 European Masters.
