John Higgins withdraws from the 2021 German Masters
John Higgins has been withdrawn from the 2021 German Masters after testing positive for Covid-19.
Higgins, who recently finished runner-up in The Masters, has returned a positive test result upon his return to the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
The Scotsman was due to take on Stuart Carrington in the Last 32 of the world ranking event on Wednesday afternoon.
Grimbsy’s Carrington will now receive a bye into the Last 16 – where he will await the winner of the tie between Tom Ford and Yuan Sijun.
All other players involved in the £400,000 tournament have returned negative test results.
Higgins will now undergo a period of self-isolation and will receive the support of WST and the WPBSA.
The main stage of this year’s German Masters has been relocated from Berlin to Milton Keynes as a result of ongoing restrictions.
Thirty-one players will now compete for the £80,000 top prize from January 27-31, with Judd Trump bidding to defend the title.
