Ronnie O’Sullivan continues his bid for International Championship glory with a second round showdown against Jack Lisowski on Tuesday.
The International Championship is one of the only ranking titles missing from O’Sullivan’s CV, and the 49-year-old will be determined to mount a serious challenge this week.
O’Sullivan is making his third consecutive appearance in the lucrative event, having reached the semi-finals in Tianjin two years ago.
The Rocket is competing in a ranking tournament for only the third time this season, having finished runner-up in the Saudi Arabia Masters in August before reaching the quarter-finals of the Xi’an Grand Prix last month.
Seeded number six, O’Sullivan recovered from 4-2 down to edge out Allan Taylor in his held over qualifying match with the aid of four centuries on Sunday.
The seven-time World Champion then reeled off six frames on the spin from 2-0 down to see off Sanderson Lam in Monday’s Last 64 with top breaks of 93 and 106.
Lisowski, meanwhile, arrived in Nanjing riding the crest of a wave less than 48 hours after finally ending the wait for an elusive maiden ranking title at the Northern Ireland Open.
An emotional triumph over his close friend Judd Trump saw Lisowski end a run of six consecutive ranking final defeats and dedicate the title to his dedicated the title to his late father – who passed away in March.
The 34-year-old is now looking to break new ground once again by recording a first competitive win over O’Sullivan, having lost all four of their previous meetings, two of which in Triple Crown events.
Lisowski got off and running in Nanjing with a 6-4 win over Louis Heathcote on Monday, picking up from where he left off in Belfast by firing in a fantastic four centuries.
The match gets under way from 6.30am GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames.
Either four-time ranking event winner Barry Hawkins or 2024 World Championship finalist Jak Jones will await the winner in the Last 16.
