Judd Trump continues his bid for a fifth Northern Ireland Open title when he plays good friend Matthew Selt in the last 32 on Tuesday.

The most successful player in the history of the Home Nations Series with six triumphs, four of those have come in this event for the Ace.

He won a hat-trick of titles between 2018 and 2020, before adding to that following a 9-2 victory over Chris Wakelin in last year’s showpiece.

The reigning champion is seeking his third silverware of the campaign, having already landed the Shanghai Masters and inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters crowns thus far.

His quest began with a commanding 4-0 victory over English Open semi-finalist Ishpreet Singh Chadha, against whom he made breaks of 112, 72 and 65.

Trump has won each of his last five meetings with Selt, going on to win the respective tournament following four of them.

Mark Williams is the other former champion of this event in action on day three at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, where the last 64 concludes and last 32 commences.

The 2017 winner opens his tournament against compatriot Jamie Clarke, while reigning World champion Kyren Wilson goes up against former UK Championship semi-finalist David Grace.

Wakelin, last year’s runner-up, starts his quest to go one better against Hungarian teenager Bulcsu Revesz, with Shaun Murphy facing another former finalist in 2022 silver medallist Zhou Yuelong.

Elsewhere, Ali Carter goes up against Ma Hailong, while a tasty all-Thai clash pits Thepchaiya Un-Nooh against 2023 Scottish Open finalist Noppon Saengkham.

Oliver Lines has already got two wins under his belt this week. His run to last month’s British Open semi-finals clashed with his scheduled qualifying matches, meaning they were held over to the main venue and, subsequently, brought victories over Joshua Cooper and Ricky Walden.

Next up for him is English Open runner-up Wu Yize, while former ranking event winners Robert Milkins and Jimmy Robertson take on Tian Pengfei and Louis Heathcote respectively.

Play gets under way at 10am BST on Tuesday with all matches contested over the best of seven frames at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
