World number 11 Luca Brecel faces snooker legend Jimmy White in the Last 64 of the Northern Ireland Open in Belfast on Tuesday.
Brecel enjoyed a dream start to the season, picking up the Championship League ranking title to follow up last year’s Scottish Open success.
The Belgian ace was then beaten in the Last 64 of the European Masters, before being denied British Open qualification by Graeme Dott.
Runner-up in the 2021 UK Championship, Brecel enjoyed his best season on tour last term and will be looking to press on in his quest for further silverware.
He begins his Home Nation Series campaign against an opponent 33 years his senior in what will be the first competitive meeting between the pair.
White, who has been an ever-present on the professional circuit since 1980, has proven he still has what it takes to compete with today’s young guns.
The ten-time ranking event winner pulled off an impressive 4-3 victory over Yuan Sijun to reach the main stages of this event with a top break of 132 to his name.
Now ranked world number 90, White also defeated Andrew Pagett to reach the Last 64 of the European Masters – where he was eventually denied 5-3 by Dominic Dale.
China’s Pang Junxu will await the winner in the Last 32 later in the week after whitewashing Matthew Selt 4-0 on Tuesday.
The match gets under way from around 2.30pm BST and will be contested over the best of seven frames.
