Ronnie O’Sullivan begins his Saudi Arabia Masters campaign with a Last 32 clash against Lei Peifan in Riyadh on Tuesday.
O’Sullivan is looking to maintain his unbeaten record in Saudi Arabia, having won the inaugural World Masters of Snooker back in March.
The Rocket came out on top in the historic invitational, pocketing an eye-watering £250,000 by winning just 13 frames across three matches.
He returns to Riyadh eyeing a tilt at the £500,000 top prize in the first ranking tournament to be held in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with a prize fund equalling that of the World Championship.
O’Sullivan is seeded number five in the draw and is bidding for his first silverware of the season, having spent much of the early part of the campaign in Asia.
The seven-time World Champion saw his Shanghai Masters unbeaten run brought to an end by Judd Trump in the Semi-Finals and was also a beaten semi-finalist at the Xi’an Grand Prix little over a week ago.
The 48-year-old first test this week comes against world number 106 Lei – who regained a two-year tour card by winning the Asia Pacific Open Championship in March.
Lei, 21, has spent four seasons on the professional circuit but has struggled to establish himself so far, with only two Third Round appearances in ranking tournaments under his belt prior to this competition.
The Chinese youngster is now enjoying his best run to date, having defeated Bai Yulu, Jamie Clarke, Robbie Williams and Joe O’Connor en route to the Last 32.
His only previous contest against O’Sullivan came at the 2019 Northern Ireland Open – which The Rocket won 4-2 in the Last 64.
The match gets under way at 6pm BST (8pm local time) and will be contested over the best of nine frames at the Green Halls.
Either International Championship winner Zhang Anda or Ben Woollaston will await the winner in the Last 16 on Wednesday.
