Scottish Open Snooker 2024 | Quarter-Finals Preview and Order of Play
Mark Allen resumes his quest for a second Scottish Open title in a tricky quarter-final clash against Noppon Saengkham on Friday.
Just eight players remain in the third Home Nations event of the season at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
They include two former champions, a former finalist, two other ranking event winners, plus a first-time ranking quarter-finalist.
Allen lifted the Stephen Hendry trophy in 2018, while reaching the semi-finals on his defence the following year.
The Pistol, who beat He Guoqiang and Ryan Day earlier in the week, is fresh from edging out Jack Lisowski 4-3 in the last 16, and now targets his third semi-final of the campaign.
Although, he faces a tough task in 2023 finalist Saengkham, who certainly comes to life in Edinburgh.
Indeed, this is his first quarter-final appearance of the season, which he has secured with victories over Ricky Walden, Mark Selby and Ali Carter.
Luca Brecel also finds himself in uncharted territory as far as 2024-25 is concerned, with the Belgian gearing up to face Xiao Guodong.
The 2021 champion has put an otherwise difficult campaign to one side in the Scottish capital, overturning a 3-1 deficit to edge out Ding Junhui on Thursday.
Standing in his way is Wuhan Open champion Xiao, who is appearing in his fifth quarter-final of this term.
The Chinese, who also reached the last eight of this event in 2017, has already beaten Crucible finalist Jak Jones and home favourite Stephen Maguire this week.
Recently crowned Shoot Out champion Tom Ford looks to build on his recent momentum against first-time ranking quarter-finalist Lei Peifan.
The Leicester cueist has dropped just four frames, while beating the likes of Neil Robertson to reach his second successive Scottish Open quarter-final.
His 21-year-old opponent has embarked on a ground-breaking run in Edinburgh and he has definitely earned the right to make it this far, beating Hossein Vafaei, Shaun Murphy and Stuart Bingham along the way.
The other tie pits two players targeting their third semi-finals of the season in Chris Wakelin and Wu Yize.
Wakelin has dropped just two frames on the way to securing back-to-back Scottish Open quarter-final appearances, seeing off Scott Donaldson, Zhang Anda and Xing Zihao on route.
As for English Open runner-up Wu, he had won just one match in his three previous Scottish Open campaigns. However, the Chinese has quadrupled that tally this week, defeating Barry Hawkins in a deciding frame last time out.
Play gets under way at 12pm GMT on Friday with all matches contested over the best of nine frames at Meadowbank Sports Centre.
