Kyren Wilson crashed out of the Scottish Open following a 4-1 defeat by Fergal O’Brien in Llandudno on Tuesday.

The world number five became the highest-profile casualty at Venue Cymru so far this week.

A semi-finalist at the Champion of Champions and UK Championship, Wilson entered the second-round clash having won each of his three previous meetings with veteran O’Brien.

But the former British Open winner had clearly not read the script; making breaks of 98 and 57, before sealing an impressive victory with a stunning 140 total clearance.

The Irishman’s reward is a showdown with Gary Wilson, who hit a top break of 125 as he beat Anthony Hamilton by the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, Jimmy Robertson set a new record for the number of points scored by a player during a single frame.

Indeed, the former European Masters champion registered 178 points – surpassing Dominic Dale’s previous record of 167 during the 1999 World Championship – in the final frame of his 4-1 win over Lee Walker.

Next up for Robertson is Anthony McGill, who had a high break of 110 as he overcame Chris Wakelin by the same scoreline.

Ronnie O’Sullivan hit breaks of 88, 86, 72 and 68 as he took just 37 minutes to complete a 4-0 whitewash of Michael Georgiou, who could only register three points along the way.

Reigning champion Mark Selby recovered from losing the opening frame with a break of 107 sealing a 4-1 victory over Oliver Lines, while Stephen Maguire had runs of 90, 81 and 71 as he beat Sunny Akani by the same margin.

Championship League winner David Gilbert hit breaks of 130 and 113 in his 4-2 success against Chang Bingyu, as Ryan Day had runs of 120, 83 and 73 in a dominant 4-0 whitewash of Gao Yang.

UK Championship runner-up Luca Brecel beat Joe Perry 4-2, while Scott Donaldson prevailed 4-3 on the final black against Steven Hallworth.
