Neil Robertson edges past Ronnie O’Sullivan in classic Tour Championship Semi-Final

O’Sullivan and Robertson do battle once more

Former Tour Championship winners Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson face off in a mouth-watering Semi-Final in Llandudno on Friday.

A repeat of the 2019 and 2021 finals sees the two box office stars lock horns once again, having already met twice in major competition this year.

Robertson has O’Sullivan’s number of late, having won both of their encounters in 2022 so far and four of their last five.

The Australian ace is back at Venue Cymru as defending champion after he thrashed ‘The Rocket’ 10-4 in last year’s final behind closed doors, and is looking to become the first player to successfully retain this title.

He has enjoyed another prolific season of success, claiming the English Open, Players Championship and Masters titles.

The world number four, who celebrated his 40th birthday last month, withdrew from the Turkish Masters and suffered a Fourth Round exit in Gibraltar last week, but bounced back by defeating Mark Allen 10-6 in the opening round with five centuries along the way.

O’Sullivan, meanwhile, lifted the inaugural Tour Championship title here three years ago courtesy of a 13-11 success over Robertson in a high quality final.

The six-time World champion is set to return to the top of the world rankings for a fifth spell in his illustrious career after the conclusion of this event.

Having already captured the World Grand Prix title this season, O’Sullivan would also claim the Cazoo Series bonus of £150,000 should he go all the way this weekend.

He held his nerve to edge out Mark Williams in a deciding frame classic in the Quarter-Finals, firing in five century breaks along the way.

O’Sullivan has won 18 of his 30 previous meetings with Robertson dating back to 2005, with his most recent success coming in the final of last year’s World Grand Prix.

Their latest encounter gets under way from 1pm BST for a maximum of eight frames before behind played to a finish over the best of 19 from 7pm.

Either four-time World Champion John Higgins or Scottish Open winner Luca Brecel will await the winner in Sunday’s final.
