Ronnie O’Sullivan v Mark Williams live stream | Tour Championship 2022 preview
Ronnie O’Sullivan looks to continue his dominant record over Mark Williams when they clash in the Tour Championship quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Two members of the esteemed ‘Class of 92’ – boasting 62 ranking titles between them including nine World Championships – collide in another eagerly anticipated encounter at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
In what will be their 49th meeting since turning professional 30 years ago, O’Sullivan is targeting a 34th victory.
Interestingly, the Rocket has also prevailed in all six of their previous encounters contested over the best of 19 frames or greater.
The six-time World champion is set to return to the top of the world rankings for a fifth spell in his illustrious career.
The 46-year-old has reached the final in both of his previous Tour Championship appearances; winning the inaugural event in 2019, while he was runner-up to an inspired Neil Robertson 12 months ago.
And having already captured the World Grand Prix this season, O’Sullivan would also claim the Cazoo Series bonus of £150,000 should he go all the way this week.
Although, he did fall at the first hurdle of the Gibraltar Open last weekend and that will encourage Williams, who last victory in the fixture – excluding the Championship League – came at the 2014 International Championship.
Seeded sixth for his first appearance at this event since 2019 – when he lost 9-8 to Judd Trump in the quarter-finals from 8-5 up – the Welshman claimed the second silverware of the season at the British Open back in August.
The three-time World champion was also narrowly denied a place in the Masters showpiece by Robertson, who recovered from requiring two snookers to snatch a dramatic victory on the final black, while Hossein Vafaei pipped him to the Shootout title.
The match gets under way from 1pm BST for a maximum of eight frames before resuming to a finish over the best of 19 from 7.30pm.
Robertson, who produced five centuries in his 10-6 victory over Mark Allen, will await the winner in the Semi-Finals on Friday.
