Ronnie O’Sullivan v Zhou Yuelong live stream | UK Championship 2025 preview
Ronnie O’Sullivan begins his latest bid for a record-extending ninth UK Championship title with a tie against Zhou Yuelong in York on Tuesday.
O’Sullivan is the most successful player in the history of this illustrious Triple Crown event since his historic triumph as a 17-year-old back in 1993.
Now just three days shy of his 50th birthday, ‘The Rocket’ remains in the top echelons of the sport and is challenging for a 42nd career ranking title.
However, ranking event appearances on UK soil have proved few and far between for O’Sullivan in recent times, with his most recent coming at the World Championship seven months ago.
Since that run to the semi-finals at The Crucible, the Essex ace has featured in only three ranking events this season, finishing runner-up in the Saudi Arabia Masters, as well as the quarter-finals of the Xi’an Grand Prix and a second round exit at the International Championship.
His last outing resulted in a 4-0 whitewash at the hands of Shaun Murphy in the Riyadh Season Championship less than a fortnight ago.
O’Sullivan, who last triumphed at the York Barbican two years ago, is out to atone for last year’s first round exit to Barry Hawkins, and is facing Zhou in this event for the fourth time.
O’Sullivan has prevailed on all three previous occasions at this venue, securing whitewash wins in 2018 and 2022 before a narrow 6-5 success in the quarter-finals in 2023.
Zhou is aiming to make it eighth time lucky in his quest for a landmark first win over the sport’s all-time great and is making his 11th UK Championship appearance after coming through the qualifiers last week.
The 27-year-old, who reached the semi-finals of this event in 2020, was runner-up in this season’s English Open and a semi-finalist at the Northern Ireland Open.
The Chinese star received a walkover against Marco Fu in his opening qualifying match before defeating Jamie Clarke 6-2 to secure a return to The Barbican.
The match gets under way from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames.
Either two-time UK Champion Mark Selby or China’s Lei Peifan will await the winner in the Last 16 on Thursday.
